Greenery: 2017 Pantone Color of the Year Gift Guide

Greenery - Pantone Color of the Year 2017
Greenery – Pantone Color of the Year 2017

Pantone recently announced that the color of the year for 2017 is a shade called Greenery. Their website calls the Greenery “nature’s neutral” and provides this description of the color:

A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

I’m crazy about anything in the color yellow-green! We’ve put together a gift guide to help you shop for pens, ink and journals that are similar to this shade of green.

The first fountain pen that came to my mind when I saw Greenery was this LAMY Safari fountain pen in green. If you haven’t already collected a Safari in this color this is a good year to do it! We replaced the regular nib on the pen in this photo with a calligraphy nib.

Chiku-Rin or Bamboo Forest fountain pen ink is a yellow green shade similar to the color of new growth on plants in the spring, which also happens to be the same color in nature that inspired the shade Greenery. Truly a beautiful and refreshing color!

New! Rhodiarama Soft-Cover Notebooks

Rhodiarama Soft Cover Notebooks - Lilac & Purple
Rhodiarama Soft Cover Notebooks – Lilac & Purple

I am in love with the new Rhodiarama Soft-Cover Notebooks now available in the USA! I’ve been test driving one for a few weeks now and definitely foresee myself continuing to use these extraordinary paper notebooks into the future.

The cover material is an Italian leatherette that has a soft feel to it – similar (or the same) as what’s used for the covers of Rhodiarama Webbies. Even though it’s not real leather all of my friends thought it was the real thing. The cover is thin and flexible which helps to make this notebook nice and compact for slipping in an out of a purse or briefcase. There is enough support provided by the soft cover that I was able to take notes even when the notebook was sitting in my lap. The cover is plain, without any printing, except for an embossed Rhodia logo in the center of the front cover.

The ivory colored paper inside the Rhodiarama soft-cover notebook is luxuriously smooth, fountain pen friendly 90g Clairefontaine paper. I could write on both sides of the page and the inks that I used did not feather or bleed though the paper. This paper is also pH neutral, acid free and PEFC certified. The grey lines inside the ruled notebook do not go all the way to the edge of the page and are spaced 7 mm apart. For my medium size handwriting this is perfect!

This soft-cover notebook has matching Rhodia orange endsheets, orange ribbon bookmark and orange elastic closure. Inside the back cover is an expandable orange pocket. I love that the interior pocket helps to cover the small bumps created by the elastic band closure so even when you’re writing in the last few pages of the notebook the bumps created by the pocket and elastic are very minimal (unless of course you’ve packed the pocket super full).

Rhodiarama’s soft-cover notebook contains 80 sheets of lined paper. It is described as having a glued spine and you can see that the cover material is indeed glued to the spine of the notebook. The binding itself is sewn and the notebook easily opens nice and flat.

The medium A5 size notebook is about 3/8″ thick, 5 3/4″ wide and 8 1/4″ tall. (In contrast, a medium size Rhodia Webbie is about 3/4″ thick, 5 1/2″ wide and 8 3/8″ tall.) It is currently available in 16 different cover colors: Yellow, Orange, Tangerine, Poppy, Raspberry, Lilac, Purple, Iris, Sapphire, Turquoise, Anise, Beige, Taupe, Chocolate, Black and Silver.

We keep selling out of these great Rhodia notebooks, but don’t worry we’ll be ordering more!

Rhodiarama Webnotebooks A5 Size & LAMY Safari Fountain Pens

We are excited to announce that the Rhodiarama Webnotebook in A5 size has finally arrived at Writer’s Bloc from France! The Webnotebook has a lot of features to like. At the top of my list is the luxuriously smooth paper that performs very well with fountain pens. This ivory color 90g paper is made by Clairefontaine and it minimizes or eliminates fountain pen ink feathering, bleeding or see-through to the other side of the page. Rhodia Webnotebooks are sturdy and well constructed with an Italian leatherette hard cover. They make great gifts. I also find that both the expandable inner pocket and ribbon bookmark are very useful. So how does the Rhodiarama Webnotebook differ from a regular Rhodia Webnotebook? Here is a list of what we found:

Rhodiarama Webnotebooks A5 Size - Chocolate, Sapphire, Purple Covers

  • 96 sheets of ivory paper
  • Hard cover is made with Italian leatherette

As of today we have imported 3 of our favorite Rhodiarama cover colors: Purple, Sapphire and Chocolate; and all of these have lined paper. Take a look at all of the Rhodiarama colors on the Rhodia website (Black, Chocolate, Taupe, Beige, Anise, Turquoise, Sapphire, Iris, Purple, Lilac, Raspberry, Poppy, Tangerine, Orange & Yellow). If you could have just one of these colors what would it be? What kind of paper would it have? Blank or Lined? Why do you like the Rhodia Webnotebook?
